Percutaneous Coronary Intervention for Chronic Total Occlusions
نویسنده
چکیده
I mpasses are common in everyday life. When they occur in coronary arteries as chronic total occlusions (CTOs), they may be difficult to treat. Successful treatment of CTOs sometimes requires a nonconformist approach based on “negative thinking,” which is described in philosophical circles as the mindset that “negates” the possibility of failure and replaces it with the potentiality of success (1).

Success, safety, and mechanisms of failure of percutaneous coronary intervention for occlusive non-drug-eluting in-stent restenosis versus native artery total occlusion.
We compared the procedural success, mechanism of failure, and safety of percutaneous coronary intervention in 235 procedures for de novo chronic total occlusions with 78 procedures for chronic occlusive in-stent restenosis. Despite similar rates of procedural success and safety profile, angiographic predictors of successful percutaneous coronary intervention for de novo chronic total occlusions...
متن کاملCurrent percutaneous recanalization of coronary chronic total occlusion.
Although successful recanalization rates of coronary chronic total occlusions have remained suboptimal in percutaneous coronary interventions, evolving techniques, including the retrograde approach, have raised hopes for better outcomes. With the advent of antiplatelet therapy and drug-eluting stents, along with conventional antegrade approaches, further progress can be expected in the "last fr...

Recanalisation of chronic total occlusions has remained suboptimal in the field of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Hopes for a better outcome have been raised since its introduction and evolvement of new techniques, including retrograde approach. Along with conventional antegrade approaches this technique led to a success rate of more than 90% in experienced and chronic total occlusio...

C hronic total coronary occlusions (CTOs) represent one of the final frontiers in the evolution of revascularization with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Although CTO revascularization relieves symptoms, reduces ischemic burden, improves left ventricular systolic function, and attenuates remodeling, convincing proof of improved survival remains elusive (1–3). Ongoing randomized trials...
متن کاملPercutaneous Recanalisation of Coronary Artery Chronic Total Occlusions: a 2014 Update
Coronary chronic total occlusions (CTOs) are frequently encountered in clinical practice, and their presence influences management decisions; patients with CTOs are more frequently allocated to bypass graft surgery or medical therapy than patients without CTOs. Recent advances in interventional guidewires, catheters, and novel techniques have led to significant improvements in success rates wit...
